Leyard DirectLight X (P1.2) — cabinet grid & viewing distance
Problem. A fine-pitch indoor LED wall needs a cabinet grid and viewing envelope that match the room, not just a target width and height. At a 4 × 2.25 m (16:9) wall, the decision is how the DirectLight X's 1.27 mm pitch maps to cabinet count, native resolution and the distance at which the closest seat can sit.
Answer. At 4 × 2.25 m the calculator resolves the DirectLight X (P1.2) to a 7 × 7 cabinet grid, giving an actual wall of 4.2 × 2.36 m and a native resolution of 3304 × 1862 (approximately 6.2 MP). With a 3 m closest seat, that distance sits inside the 1.3-2.5 m optimal viewing band by a comfortable margin, so pixel structure is not visible from any occupied seat.

How this preset reads — the engineering view.
Pixel pitch is the number that drives everything else on this preset. At 1.27 mm, the DirectLight X sets both the cabinet grid math (cabinet size divided into the target wall) and the optimal viewing band, which the calculator derives as pitch x 1.0 to pitch x 2.0 — here, 1.3-2.5 m. Seats closer than that will start to resolve individual pixels on high-contrast content; seats beyond it are comfortably within spec.
At 1000 nits, this cabinet is built for controlled indoor rooms with managed ambient light rather than daylight-facing lobbies or storefronts. Wall-mount and front-service both suit a fixed indoor installation where rear access is limited or unavailable. The native canvas at this wall size, 3304 x 1862 (~6.2 MP), suits close-viewed broadcast, control-room and video-conferencing content where fine detail and text need to hold up under scrutiny.
Use the calculator by dragging the wall width and height and watching the cabinet grid and native resolution recompute in real time. Because cabinets are discrete units, the calculator snaps the grid to whole cabinets — so the actual wall it returns (4.2 x 2.36 m for this preset) may differ slightly from the 4 x 2.25 m target you dragged to.
The calculator sizes the wall and confirms the viewing envelope; it does not decide structural or rigging load for the mount, the power and data cable run back to the rack, processor or scaler selection, how source content should be mapped to the native resolution, or ambient-light calibration for the room. Those sit with the installing engineer and the AV/ELV coordination drawings.
What this preset deliberately does not solve
- Cabinet snapping means the built wall is very slightly larger than the typed target — confirm the actual 4.2 x 2.36 m footprint against the available wall space before committing.
- The 1.3-2.5 m optimal viewing band is a pitch-derived guideline, not a substitute for a sightline check against the room's actual seating plan.
- 1000 nits is suited to a controlled indoor room; it is not a brightness rating for daylight-facing or high-ambient-light locations.
How this preset differs from its siblings
Other fine-pitch indoor LED products in the catalogue sit at different pitch, brightness or service points, which shifts both the cabinet grid and the optimal viewing band for the same target wall. The DirectLight X's 1.27 mm pitch and front-service, wall-mount profile suit a fixed indoor installation viewed from inside its 1.3-2.5 m band; a coarser-pitch or rear-service product would change the recommended minimum viewing distance and the access planning around the wall, which is why this cabinet needs its own preset rather than sharing one with a different pitch class.
