K-array Domino KF212: SPL & Coverage Preset
Problem. In a 25 x 18 m live event space, the practical question is not just how many Domino KF212 boxes to hang but whether the SPL reaching a listener at 12 m still lands in a usable range once drive is pulled back from full output. The 90 deg x 60 deg dispersion also has to be checked against the room's width before assuming a single hang covers the floor edge to edge.
Answer. At 60% drive, a listener at 12 m from this point source cabinet sees an SPL of approximately 106 dB, comfortably under the ~108 dB the box delivers at 12 m when driven to full output. The 90 deg x 60 deg dispersion supports a horizontal coverage radius of roughly 12 m at the -6 dB line, which is why the planner centres this preset on a 12 m listener distance.

How this preset reads — the engineering view.
The Domino KF212 is rated at 130 dB maximum SPL at 1 m. Sound pressure falls off with distance under the inverse-square relationship, so at 12 m and full output the level at the listener position works out to approximately 108 dB. Pulling the drive back to 60% brings that same 12 m listener position down to approximately 106 dB, which is the figure this preset locks in as the default.
The cabinet's 90 deg x 60 deg (H x V) nominal dispersion is what sets the roughly 12 m horizontal coverage radius used in this preset. A pattern this wide favours even near-field fill across a floor rather than a narrow throw, which suits a general live-event layout more than a long, narrow hall. Being a passive cabinet, the Domino KF212 also needs matched external amplification sized to the box before any of these SPL figures are achievable in practice.
Inside the planner, drag the listener distance and drive level sliders and watch the SPL figure move in real time against the 130 dB @1 m rating. The box-count estimate shown alongside is a front-coverage guide only — SPL adequacy at the furthest listener position is a separate check the planner runs independently, and both should read favourably before a layout is treated as workable.
The planner does not model room reverberation or RT60, coverage zoning across separate areas of a venue, subwoofer pairing or crossover points, array mechanical rigging and hang geometry, or DSP and delay-line tuning between multiple hangs. Each of those sits with detailed acoustic design once the headline SPL and coverage figures here look sound.
What this preset deliberately does not solve
- Figures assume free-field inverse-square propagation; real rooms with reflective surfaces or heavy absorption will shift the SPL a listener actually perceives.
- The -6 dB coverage radius is derived from nominal dispersion angles and does not account for cabinet placement height, tilt, or overlap between multiple hangs.
- Rated 130 dB @1 m is the manufacturer's maximum SPL figure; sustained operation at or near full output should be checked against the amplifier pairing and duty-cycle limits.
How this preset differs from its siblings
Other point-source options in the catalogue carry different rated SPL and dispersion figures, which shift both the safe listener distance and the coverage radius the planner returns — a narrower-pattern cabinet will throw further but cover less width, while a lower-rated-SPL cabinet needs a closer listener position to hold the same headline dB figure. The Domino KF212's passive format also means its preset always assumes external amplification sized separately, unlike any self-powered cabinet in the range. This preset exists so a visitor comparing this specific cabinet's SPL and coverage does not have to re-enter its catalogue specs by hand.
