XGIMI Horizon Ultra throw distance & placement

Problem. The XGIMI Horizon Ultra is a fixed-lens home cinema projector, so there is no zoom ring to absorb a mismeasured room - the placement distance has to be right before the unit is mounted or shelved. At a 120-inch 16:9 image this preset answers the one question that actually matters: how far back does the projector need to sit.

Answer. At a 120-inch 16:9 screen (2.66 m wide), the Horizon Ultra's fixed 1.2:1 throw ratio puts the projector at 3.19 m from the screen. That is a single, non-adjustable number - the room needs a shelf, ceiling point or rear surface at (or very close to) 3.19 m, not a range either side of it.

How this preset reads — the engineering view.

The Horizon Ultra uses a fixed lens at a 1.2:1 throw ratio, not a zoom lens. That means throw distance and screen size are locked to each other in a straight line: change one and the other must follow. For the 120-inch 16:9 screen this preset opens on, that works out to 3.19 m from lens to screen - plan the room around that distance rather than expecting the projector to adjust to the room.

Rated at 2300 lumens with a native 3840x2160 panel and an LED-laser-hybrid light source, the Horizon Ultra is built for a room where ambient light can be brought down - evening viewing, blackout curtains, or a dedicated media room - rather than a bright daytime lounge. It suits a 120-inch (or similarly sized) matte or ALR screen where the image doesn't have to fight strong daylight.

What this preset deliberately does not solve

  • The 1.2:1 throw ratio is fixed - there is no zoom to correct for a mismeasured room; the 3.19 m figure is the placement distance, not a range.
  • 2300 lumens is a bright-enough figure for controlled or evening light, not a substitute for a fully blacked-out room at very large screen sizes.
  • Native 3840x2160 resolution and the LED-laser-hybrid light source are panel and illumination specs; they don't change the throw geometry calculated here.

How this preset differs from its siblings

Most other home cinema projectors on this calculator carry a zoom lens with a throw-ratio range, so the same screen size can be hit from several distances. The Horizon Ultra's fixed 1.2:1 lens removes that latitude - one screen size maps to exactly one throw distance, which changes the planning conversation from 'where roughly can I place it' to 'is there a surface at precisely 3.19 m'. That single-number constraint is specific enough to this model to warrant its own preset rather than folding it into a generic home-cinema entry.
