Fire safety
the cause-and-effect spine.
NBC 2016, IS 2189, EN 54, the cause-and-effect matrix that ties fire, PA, BMS, lifts and access control into one event.
- Primary code
- NBC 2016 + IS 2189 (fire) + EN 54-16 (PA)
- Cause-and-effect spine
- Documented per project, witnessed at commissioning, re-verified annually
- Battery sizing standard
- EN 54-4 — 24h standby + 30 min alarm at full load
Fire safety is the most heavily regulated engineering layer in any building. NBC 2016 governs the occupancy thresholds, the zoning logic, the detection-to-evacuation cause-and-effect. IS 2189 specifies the fire-alarm panel and detector. EN 54-16 specifies the PA voice-evacuation equipment. The AHJ witnesses the commissioning. The insurer audits the documentation. The integrator's responsibility is to produce a specification that is reviewable against the codes, witnessed cleanly and operates as documented for the building's life.
We treat the cause-and-effect matrix as the spine of the integration. Every detector zone maps to a PA zone, a BMS damper command, a lift homing trigger, a magnetic door-holder release, an access-control evacuation mode. The matrix is documented in the engineering pack, programmed into the panels, witnessed at commissioning and re-verified annually. The discipline keeps the system reliable across firmware updates, panel replacements and integration changes.

Fire alarm + PA voice evacuation
Fire-alarm panels trigger zoned PA voice messages via a cause-and-effect matrix; both are governed by NBC 2016 + IS 2189, with EN 54-16 as the voice-alarm equipment benchmark.

Methodology
Methodology principles cited above
design
Fail-safe defaults on every interlock
Every interlock between life-safety and convenience must default to safe — not to the convenient state.
commissioning
Commissioning is verification, not configuration
If commissioning is the first time the integration is tested end-to-end, the project is already late.
documentation
Documentation is the deliverable
The installed system is half the deliverable; the documentation pack is the other half. Without it, the system is a black box.
