Hanwha XNV-9083R (4K AI IR Vandal Dome) storage & retention
Problem. A fleet of Hanwha XNV-9083R 8MP vandal dome cameras recorded continuously raises a real storage-sizing question: how much usable capacity does 30 days of 24/7 recording actually need, and what class of NVR head-end that capacity implies.
Answer. 16 Hanwha XNV-9083R cameras at 8MP H.265, continuous recording, over a 30-day retention window works out to roughly 41 TB of storage — about 86 GB per camera per day. At 16 cameras this sits in the Entry NVR architecture class.

How this preset reads — the engineering view.
The XNV-9083R's 8MP sensor at a typical 8 Mbps H.265 bitrate and 30 fps is the storage driver here — it works out to roughly 86 GB per camera per day. H.265 is the reason that figure is manageable at all: at the same 8MP resolution, plain H.264 would push meaningfully more data per day for the same visual detail, since H.265's smart-codec compression does more work per bit.
Scaling is linear once the per-camera figure is set: 16 cameras × 30 days at ~86 GB/camera/day lands at roughly 41 TB. Add more cameras or extend retention and the number scales the same way — doubling either roughly doubles the storage. At 16 cameras and this bitrate profile, the resulting capacity sits comfortably within an Entry NVR head-end class rather than a multi-bay enterprise array.
Use the calculator by dragging camera count and retention days to see the storage total recompute live, and by switching the recording schedule — continuous 24/7 is the default here, but a motion-only schedule applies a duty factor that cuts the effective recorded hours per day, reducing storage well below the continuous figure for the same camera count.
The calculator does not decide real scene-activity bitrate variance (a busy entrance pushes more than a quiet corridor at the same nominal bitrate), RAID or redundancy overhead, failover or archive-tier storage, network write-throughput limits at the NVR, or the exact drive make-up and count for the final BOQ — those remain separate engineering decisions.
What this preset deliberately does not solve
- The 8 Mbps figure is a scene-average bitrate at typical detail levels — busier scenes with more motion push higher, quieter scenes lower.
- This preset models continuous 24/7 recording; switching to a motion-triggered schedule reduces effective recorded hours and storage accordingly.
- The output is raw storage capacity before RAID or redundancy overhead, which a real BOQ adds separately.
How this preset differs from its siblings
The XNV-9083R's 8MP sensor and 8 Mbps H.265 bitrate sit above typical 4MP presets, so its per-camera daily footprint (~86 GB) is proportionally higher than a 4MP H.265 camera at a similar frame rate — resolution and bitrate, not camera count alone, are what move the storage figure. This page exists separately because the calculator's output is bitrate-and-resolution specific to this camera model, and a visitor sizing a fleet of XNV-9083R units needs the number for this sensor, not an average across the catalog.
